Bruno DurrerGerman version
Bruno Durrer, born in 1953 in Goldau, Switzerland is a medical doctor working as general practitioner in Lauterbrunnen in the  Bernese Oberland. He is a mountain guide and a most prominent mountain rescue doctor, having performed over 3000 bold rescue operations of injured climbers and avalanche victims.

Bruno Durrer has developed and influenced modern mountain rescue techniques, which have improved rescue standards worldwide and saved the lives of many people stranded in the wilderness.

He is a founding member of the International and Swiss Society for Mountain Medicine and  past president of the UIAA Medical Commission. He has given numerous lectures and published scientific papers on survival in avalanches and rescue techniques for places like the Eiger north face. He has climbed extensively in the Alps and the Himalayas.
